Earlier in January I took a short cruise to the Bahamas with my boyfriend. A cheap deal came up and we just couldn't pass it up. This is a photo I took from the boat.

Having a little R&R with my gal pal Madi. She comes to visit me here in Asheville from time to time and we always have a blast. She was my friend/model/muse/guinea pig when I was in school.

Something that has always captivated me was the universe. As a kid I grew up out in the country so I was always out at night, gazing at the sparkling sky. My time used to be completely consumed by my desire to know more about what goes on outside of our Earthly bubble. This is a shot of my boyfriend gazing at the stars during the Quadrantids meteor shower early in February and on the right photo is where I captured a meteor traveling across the sky (top left side). It was such a magical moment especially with the rumble of noise that came along with it. Being in 14 degree weather for about 2 hours was worth it.

Looks like a Mac desktop background-- it is my desktop background... but I took it. I have hopes of more frequently capturing the night sky. Soon a 15mm lens will be in my possession.

Location scouting is something I have been doing for about seven years now (since I became serious about photography). I always come across a beautiful landscape that even if I don't end up using the location in the future, I try to capture it anyway while I'm there. This was one of those times when everything seemed so perfect.

This is my dad. I know a lot of people use chainsaws and hang out in the woods cutting up wood and splitting it. But for my dad it's kind of special because he practically had no mobility in his arms or his neck almost two years ago. He couldn't do much of anything without being in pain. My dad has always been my hero and I'll never forget the tears in his eyes when he spoke to me about how wonderful it is to finally not be in pain. It goes along with the time my dad got hearing aids and when he heard my sister and I talk, it was the first time in a long time that he could hear our voices. I love this man and he's such an inspiration.

It's refreshing to get to "shake things up" every now and then. I recently got the opportunity to take photos for a UNCA student profile. This is Ben McDonald in one of the labs he works in; he is a chemist set to graduate this year from UNCA and move on to get his PhD.

This is Sam Anderson. She is a very interesting individual and obviously has the looks to boot. Upon meeting her and getting to know her I came to find out that she does freestyle spoken word, and contributes her skills to others' recordings along with trying to go solo. I can't wait to work with her more.

This is Jackie Franquez and my oh my is she wonderful. I plan on shooting her over and over again. Whenever I'm not talking to her in between frames I'm laughing and goofing with her before and after the shoot. What I appreciate the most about Jackie is how compassionate she is and how she is one of the most responsible mothers I have come across. Not only is Jackie beautiful in photos but she is beautiful on the inside.
